He served in the Navy and was a mechanic, a long-distance truck driver and had owned a Citgo service station in Sarasota. He was a member of Bryant Chapel CME Church, the Knights of Pythias, Pride of Sarasota No. 104, American Legion Post 125 and the Northside Progressive Men Association.Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Delores P.; sons Frank T. III and Emanuel, both of St. Petersburg, Mike and Keith, both of Jacksonville, the Rev. Harry J. Boothe
Aug. 17, 1919 - June 8, 2006

Lt. Col. Harry J. Boothe, 86, Bradenton and Anna Maria Island, died June 8, 2006. He was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Charlotte, N.C., and moved to Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base when he joined the service. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after 30 years of service. He was stationed with and remained friends with the crew that flew the "Enola Gay." He moved to Fort Myers in the early 1940s, where he owned and operated a Pepsi Cola plant and in the mid-1940s moved to Tallevast and established the Matoka Ranch, where he raised cattle and farmed for many years. He also owned Boothe Construction Seminars.He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sarasota. He served in the Air Force and flew in World War II, the Korean War, the Berlin Airlift, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Dee; a nephew, Harry; and two great-nephews.Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel. A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel. Dr. Walter Gene Thomas, 80, Sarasota and formerly of Manatee County, died May 19, 2006. He was born March 21, 1926, in Calvary, Ga., and came to the area in 1950 from Athens, Ga. He was a veterinarian and owner of the Airport Animal Hospital and a breeder of Tallevast Dachshunds. He graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Army Signal Corps. He was a member of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, a life member of the Dachshund Club of America, a Hall of Fame member of the Florida 4-H Club, and a member of the Florida Gulf Coast Dachshund Club.Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Ida; a son, Donnie W., of Sarasota; sisters Ruth Davis, of Cairo, Ga., and Thelma Taylor, of Clearwater; brothers Howell, of Tampa, and Gerald, of Calvary; and a grandchild.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Sarasota.
